Magical Salvaging

The magical salvaging tradeskill in WAR is the ability to break magical items into small magical fragments. This basically lets you take the magical essence from certain salvageable equipment. These magical items can be obtained from PvE, RvR, quests and variety of other places. When salvaging an item, you can choose the type of stats to extract from that item. Along with the fragments you will also get what is known as essences.

In your WAR ability list - there is an icon for salvaging - click on that or put it on your bar and then a little hammer appears. You can then click on the salvagable item and get materials from it. It does not seem that all armor is salvagable though and that some things drop that are specifically for salvaging. There are 3 types of magical fragments: crystals, essences and orbs. These fragments will have magical bonuses on them, such as +willpower, or +strength. When the item produces more than one type of bonus the player gets to choose which one they want.

Example

You are exploring a new Warhammer Online area of the woods and are attacked by a blood-thirsty Cabbit! After a long and exhausting fight you manage to defeat the beast and discovery a shimmering amulet around its neck. Using your powers of deduction you realize this amulet has a +5 Intelligence and +7 Agility bonus. You can’t really use the amulet yourself but you could really use the agility on something else, so you decide to extract that bonus. The process is pretty involved and the amulet is destroyed but you are left with a trinket that will allow you to use that +7 Agility on a Talisman in the future!

Orbs

Orbs can be Whispers, Echoes or Essences. 10 whispers can be combined into an Echo by right-clicking on the stack in your inventory. 5 Echoes can be made into an Essence the same way.

Warhammer Leveling Magical Salvaging

Easiest way to begin leveling is to get sufficient renown and rank to buy the boots sold by the 1st warcamp’s renown vendor. This is rank6, renown 4. At that point, you can buy greens for 8.4s and shatter them. (If they are not visible, un-check the filter button.) If you need an exact guide how to level up very fast get this leveling guide!

Besides you’ll find that you’ll get “Ruined Equipment” drops from time to time. These salvage into Essences, which can be combined to make more effective essences. I’ve only seen these to be useful to Talisman Makers.

Scrap

Weapons and armor of green or better quality can be salvaged to create fragments that improve one stat from the item. For example, a Choppa that provided 10 Strength and 14 Wounds would allow for salvaging either a strength fragment or a wounds fragment. The stat value has no effect on the quality of the fragment– it’s always one tier less than the item you salvage. For example, a green item creates a white fragment, a blue item creates a green fragment. There’s no difference in quality between two equal-color fragments, but higher rarity fragments produce larger stat bonuses on longer-lasting talismans.

Every time salvage is conducted, it has a chance to succeed or fail. If it fails, only essences are recovered. If it succeeds, a fragment is recovered along with some essences. There are 3 levels of essences: whispers, echos, and full essences. 10 whispers can be combined to form one echo, and five echos form one essence. Right click on the stack of whispers and echos in your bag to create the full essences. Only essences can be used in Talisman Making, which uses one essence per talisman. Note that you get multiple essences of varying levels from each salvage, so it’s possible to get 5 whispers and an echo.

What can I salvage?

• Anything with a magic stat that is equipable except accessories (and trophys ZzZz).
• White and lower items can’t be salvaged. Green and above can (unfortunately there are still some green items which can’t be salvaged)
  

What is the easiest way to get fragments?

If you don’t have 2 friends sending you their unneeded magic items (and you aren’t being a jerk and needing anything). You WILL have to buy magic items to salvage, especially for tier one. I found a 3s boot that was de’able, from the T1 chaos warcamp renown vendor. Remember when buying items to uncheck the “view usable only” box at the top of the merchant window. Often there are cheaper choices then what your class is able to use.

WTF +2 to stat and 8 hours USELESSS???

Yes they are useless when you first start, they really come into their own once you get to tier 2 and find blues that have good stats AND talisman slots. At that point your average will be +5-7 to a stat for 4-7 days. The time limit is meaningless for you anyways because you are leveling and will replace the gear long before it expires.

Are there permanent talismans?

Yes, purple fragments make permanent talismans. I made a +13 wounds perm one.

Where are the Magical Salvaging trainers in Warhammer ?

• Check your capital city
• Check your chapter 2 city

The magical salvaging trainer is called the salvaging trainer. Do not get that mixed up with scavenging.

How to get fragments from Salvaging?

At low levels it hard to find items that are Salvageable. Their is a chance some of them items might fail to salvage but not all will me lost you will still get some Essences from losing the item.
